Art on Hoarding
This is the first phase of an on-going programme that will involve commissioning site-specific art works for hoarding. During this phase the art works will be situated on site hoarding on John Harrison Way and East Parkside close to Greenwich Millennium Village in addition there will be smaller art works located near to Peninsula Square and on the Riverside Walk.
One of the objectives of this project is to develop a sense of ownership and involvement of local people in the development process. So the Directors of Art will be developing the project in partnership with local organisations.
Faisal Abdu'Allah has been commissioned to work with people living and working on the peninsula to create a hoarding installation based on the idea of local news. The artwork, in the same place, will include articles on local history, creative writing and images and text advertising current events.
Bob and Roberta Smith is creating The Long Short Story Backwards or Lnog Sroht Sroty Brawkcads. Working with a team of sign writers the installation will be a performance over seven weeks - creating Bob and Roberta Smith's longest ever artwork.
The project is supported by Arts Council England and Greenwich Peninsula Regeneration Ltd.
