The art programme was established to deliver this strategy. It's aim was to contribute to the development of the social and physical identity of the Greenwich Peninsula, animating the public realm and creating a sense of place.
Art in the Public Realm Greenwich Peninsula was established and supported by Homes and Communities Agency working with a wider client group which comprises representatives of Arts Council England, Greenwich Council and the Peninsula’s two principle developers, Greenwich Peninsula Regeneration Limited (a joint venture between Lend Lease and Quintain Estates and Development) and Greenwich Millennium Village Ltd. The client group appointed Directors of Art, Vivienne Reiss and Bridget Sawyers to lead the delivery of the first phase of the programme.
The first phase of the art programme was completed in February 2009. The programme and the work of the art directors have been highly successful. A very positive reputation has been established by the programme and the intention is to develop and launch phase two of the programme as delivery on the Peninsula gathers momentum.
