Event: A walk led by the directors of Art in the Public Realm, taking in the art on Greenwich peninsula .
Further information
A walk led by Directors of Art in the Public Realm, taking in the art on Greenwich peninsula such as Richard Wilson’s Slice of Reality and Antony Gormley’s Quantum Cloud. The Directors of Art in the Public Realm will present an overview of the role of the art in regeneration and lead a walk of the peninsula.
Greenwich peninsula is being transformed from a derelict brownfield site into a sustainable new community. It is a place in the making, and one of the most important development sites in London. The 15-20 year regeneration programme will create a new urban district for London including residential and business communities, health, education, leisure and retail facilities. The river creates a dramatic background for the new developments. Park areas and a natural environment including the Ecology Park are an essential part of the landscape.
The Art Directors have been appointed to develop a cohesive approach to programming art in relation to one of London’s most important regeneration projects. It brings the public, private and voluntary sectors together and engages artists’ creative ideas in the regeneration process. The programme will include temporary interventions, built places and spaces, events and performances, debate and education, and artists on the design team.
